Nesting

Origin

This term initially originated in the North American building industry and in particular in connection with prefabricated houses. This is where large-size OSB and MDF boards are cut to size and immediately processed according to individual customer requirements on special machining centres. The output could thus be increased considerably compared to the through-feed technology.

Technical requirements

  • Feed rate as high as possible for sizing cuts
  • Sizing and profiling wherever possible in one run
  • All machining processes preferably in one set in order to eliminate set-up times
  • Chaotic sizing demands special fixing tables (e.g. rubber mats ...)

Demands on the tool

  • Tool diameter as small as possible in order to reduce waste.
  • Tool shaft as sturdy and tough as possible to permit high feed rates:
    • Special tools with optimized chip
    • Almost exclusively DP tools applied
